Scorching Torquay!

Just a quick post to say how much I enjoyed day 1 of the UK nats. A great first race with 12 kts of breeze followed by one of those races that can only happen in a foiling boat. We all start off foiling and then the wind switches off at the end of lap one. I start low riding up the beat and then a puff gets me on the foils. I hang on for grim death and pull out 2/3rds of a leg on my nearest rival. 50 yds away from the windward mark I tack and am lowriding gently thinking OK this is good. Then my 500 yd lead is reduced to nothing as they pick up a gust and foil past in front of me.

I am known for not being the most patient person on the water but I can handle this as in foiling moths you know the race is never over until it is over. I did not manage to catch them again but there is always tomorrow!

Patience when launching is also required but the beach party at RTYC could not be more helpful. If the sun keeps shining I am going to enjoy this Nationals tremendously.

  1. Have fun and smooth sailing!
Do not swear loud. It spoils the day for others.
