Laser Worlds

Hayling Island is currently hosting the 2nd part of the Laser Worlds, namely the Masters. 356 boats are entered from over 20 countries and the club is handling the event with its usual professionallism. You have never seen so many ribs in one place!

Fortunately for us they all disappear out to sea and we are left to ourselves for most of the time. One thing that is strange is that when we had the Standard & Junior Laser Worlds last week there were loads of sailors crowding round looking at our Moths with lots of enthusiasm & questions (can I have a go mate? etc). The masters sailors, on the other hand, show virtually no interest at all. All I can think when I see them sail is all of that effort for so little gain. If I hiked as hard as that I would be World Champion!

I missed Alan Hillman (of Moth Fest fame) who turned up at the club yesterday which is a shame. Now I suspect it was him who left a message on my mobile stating he was from BBC Productions and could he speak to Ian Hislop? (Ian Hislop is a round bald headed chap on the TV who everyone at Mar Menor thought looked like me). Bloody cheek!

Oh and we had a great sail today over the top of the tide in about 9-14 kts. Si, Mike, Rick and Jason were out as well as me. I have my beloved Hyde sail back (that 250mm of boom room is such a joy when gybing).

Not long now to Belmont. Cant wait.

  2. Hydes added some webbing underneath the top batten to make the cam sit properly against the mast. This allows me to put more tension on the top batten so the leach does not fall off in the lighter stuff. One of the advantage of having the sail designer (Mike Lennon) sailing at your club.
